Okay. So I picked this beast up a few years ago for.. let’s just say not much. Been an on going love hate thing, I love riding it but hate working on it. But, it was cheap!

BMW r1100rt gets exhausted.

So I enjoyed riding my big pig of a flat twin tourer around for quite a while. Then I thought...

“Hang on! It’s an air cooled flat twin! It shouldn’t sound like mums sewing machine... It should sound like an effing Stuka!”

Forgive the Nazi reference, I hate those guys. 

But yeah, my bike was strangled. So was my budget! But I wanted some song! So EBay was trawled, mercilessly again and again. I’m a tight arse so this is how purchases usually start, at the bottom, how cheap can I get away with!

Ok. So the first issue you’ll encounter with one of these bikes is the “Hall Effect Sensor”.

“WTF is a Hall Effect Sensor?”

Well I’m glad you asked! It’s like a crank angle sensor as in it tells the ECU or the engines brain when to make sparks so combustion can happen.

If you purchase one of these bikes it’s the first thing that needs to be addressed (if it hasn’t been done) as it will fail and leave you thinking you’ve bought a dud!
